WAV, READY FOR EDITING.
MP3 → WAV unpacks MP3 files into uncompressed WAV (16-bit PCM). Many audio editors, DJ programs, video editing programs, samplers and older recording devices work more comfortably with WAV: the file isn’t decoded again every time, cut points land exactly, and effects apply directly. Some broadcast systems, phone systems and game engines accept only WAV.
There are no settings in this tool; the source’s sample rate and channel count are kept. To be clear: WAV is uncompressed, so the file gets bigger (about 10 MB per minute at CD quality), but information lost to MP3 compression doesn’t come back. The goal isn’t better quality but a container that suits editing. When you’re done, you can shrink the result again with “WAV → MP3” for sharing; since each lossy encode adds a little more loss, only do it as often as you need. You can upload up to 8 files at once; they are all converted with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your MP3 file. Drag and drop or choose the file. Its duration and bitrate are read.
- Start the conversion. No settings needed; the sample rate and channels stay as in the source.
- Download the WAV. The file will be several times larger than the MP3. Download it; the copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting to WAV improve the sound?
No. What MP3 discarded doesn’t come back; WAV just stores what is there without compression. You won’t hear a difference.
Why is the file so big?
WAV writes every sample as is. A 44.1 kHz stereo recording takes about 10 MB per minute, roughly seven times a 192 kbps MP3.
When is WAV needed?
When you will cut and edit the audio in an editing or video program, when a device or system only accepts WAV, or when you’ll put it into a game as a sound effect.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
