TURN ANY AUDIO INTO THE FORMAT YOU NEED.
Audio Converter turns an audio file into the format you choose. There are six output options: MP3 plays everywhere; Opus gives the best quality at the same size; Vorbis (OGG) opens on older devices too; FLAC is lossless; WAV is uncompressed and ideal for editing programs; M4A (AAC) is common on Apple devices. You can upload MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus and FLAC files. If you upload a video file, the picture is dropped and only the audio track is converted.
For lossy formats (MP3, Opus, Vorbis, M4A) you choose the bitrate: 320 kbps is the highest quality, 192 kbps is the recommended balance for music, and 64 kbps is enough for speech recordings. The bitrate setting isn’t used for FLAC and WAV. Converting a lossy source to a lossless format doesn’t improve quality; it only makes the file bigger. M4A / AAC is covered by a patent pool; if you want patent-free output, choose MP3, Opus, Vorbis, FLAC or WAV. You can upload up to 8 files at once; they are all converted with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your audio or video file. Drag and drop or choose the file. Its duration and codec are read.
- Choose the format and bitrate. MP3 at 192 kbps for everyday use; FLAC for archiving; WAV for editing.
- Convert and download. Progress is shown on screen. Download the result; the copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Which format should I choose?
MP3 if it needs to play on every device. Opus for the best quality in the smallest file. FLAC if you want no loss at all. WAV if you will import it into an editing program.
Does converting MP3 to FLAC improve quality?
No. Information discarded by MP3 compression doesn’t come back; FLAC only stores what is there losslessly, and the file gets bigger. Lossless formats only make sense when the source is lossless too.
Can I convert the audio of a video too?
Yes. You can upload MP4, MOV, MKV and other video files; the picture is dropped and the audio is saved in the format you choose. “Extract Audio from Video” gives the same result if that’s all you need.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
