The UUID Generator produces unique identifiers (UUID, also known as GUID). You can create between 1 and 500 identifiers at once. The default version 4 is entirely random (RFC 4122); version 7 puts a millisecond timestamp in its first 48 bits, so the identifiers sort in the order they were generated (RFC 9562). Both are made of 32 hexadecimal characters in the 8-4-4-4-12 arrangement, in the form 550e8400-e29b-41d4-a716-446655440000. They are used for database records, test data, file names, draft API keys or identifiers that will not collide in distributed systems.
There are four format options: standard (lowercase, with hyphens), UPPERCASE, without hyphens, and in braces; the last is the form some Windows and .NET tools expect. The identifiers come from the browser's cryptographic random number generator, not from a predictable method. The chance of two version 4 UUIDs colliding is practically zero. The list is copied to the clipboard with a single button or downloaded as a .txt file with one identifier per line. The generation is done entirely in your browser; the identifiers are not sent to any server and are not stored.
From start to finish
- Enter the number. Write how many identifiers you want, between 1 and 500.
- Choose the version and format. v4 is random, v7 is time-ordered. The format can be standard, uppercase, without hyphens or in braces.
- Copy or download. Take them to the clipboard with “Copy all” or save them as a file with “Download .txt”.
Frequently asked questions
Are UUID and GUID the same thing?
Yes. GUID is the name given to the same standard in the Microsoft world. The form in braces is common in those environments.
Are the UUIDs produced really unique?
In a version 4 UUID, 122 bits are random. Even if you produced millions of identifiers every second, two of them colliding is practically not expected.
Can I produce sequential (time-based) UUIDs?
Yes. Pick v7 in the “Version” field: the start of each identifier is a millisecond timestamp, and the list sorts in generation order, including identifiers made in the same millisecond. As a database primary key it scatters the index less than v4.
Is the data I enter sent to the server?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser; nothing you type or add is sent to the RUPO Studio server. It keeps working while the page is open even if your internet connection drops.
