Base64 Decode
Decodes Base64 text back.
This tool runs on JavaScript. To use it, turn on JavaScript in your browser and reload the page.
TURN THE TEXT BACK INTO A FILE.
Base64 Decode turns Base64 text back into the original file. You upload the text as a TXT, B64, JSON or LOG file; up to 96 MB. Line endings and spaces inside the text are ignored. If there is a prefix such as data:image/png;base64, at the start, it is dropped by itself. URL-safe Base64 (the form using - and _ instead of + and /, seen in JWTs and tokens) is accepted too, and the missing = padding is completed.
The type of the decoded content is recognized from its first bytes and the file comes down with the right extension: PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP, PDF, ZIP, MP3, OGG, FLAC, WAV, GZ and the MP4 family are recognized; readable text is given as .txt, and unrecognised content becomes .bin. That way Base64 text you copied from an API response or an email source turns into a file you can open in a single step. If the text is not valid Base64 (a character that is not allowed or a broken piece), the tool says so plainly. The decoded file is never run, only downloaded.
From start to finish
- Upload the Base64 text. Save the text to a file and drag it in or select it: TXT, B64, JSON or LOG.
- Start the decoding. No setting is needed; the prefix, the spaces and the missing padding are put right by themselves.
- Download the file. It comes down with the recognized type and the right extension. The copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
The file came down as .bin. What should I do?
The tool could not recognize the type of the content. If you know what the file is, change its extension by hand; the “File Metadata” tool can also give a clue about the type of the content.
I got a “not valid Base64” error.
There is a character in the text that does not belong in Base64, or a piece went missing while copying. Make sure you copied the whole text, from start to end.
Can I decode my JWT token?
A token is made of three parts separated by dots. If you save the middle part to its own file and upload it, the JSON inside is decoded as text. The correctness of the signature is not checked.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
