The Silence Remover finds the unnecessary pauses in speech recordings and drops them automatically: in a lecture, a podcast, a vlog or a meeting recording the gaps between the “ums”, the thinking pauses and the silent seconds go, and what is left is a recording that flows. You can upload a video or an audio file; with video files the picture is cut along with the sound, so you get an output that is ready for editing. Files can be uploaded up to 10 GB.
The tool first analyzes the file, detects the silent parts and shows how many seconds will be cleaned; then it joins the remaining parts. When it finishes, the original duration and the cleaned duration are compared on screen. If no meaningful silence is found to clean, your file is left as it is and no wrong cut is made. If the job is cancelled, the original file is kept.
From start to finish
- Upload your file. Drag the video or audio file in or select it. The file is examined; a file with no audio channel is reported from the start.
- Wait for the analysis. The silent parts are found and the total duration to be cleaned is calculated. Nothing is cut yet at this step.
- Clean and download. Press “Remove Silences”. The new duration and the time saved appear; download the file, and the copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Does it delete the natural pauses between words too?
No. Only the silences of a noticeable length that fall outside the flow of speech are dropped; the gaps between words and the room to breathe are kept, and the speech does not lose its natural rhythm. There is no feeling of a cut in the middle of a sentence.
Does the picture and sound alignment break in a video recording?
No. The picture and the sound are cut at the same points together and joined together; the lip sync is preserved in the result.
Does it work on recordings with background noise?
Yes; silence is not absolute zero but the parts noticeably below the level of the speech. If there is constant loud noise (air conditioning, traffic), fewer parts may be found; with recordings like that, reducing the noise first and cleaning afterwards gives a better result.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
