BREAK THE BIG DOCUMENT INTO PARTS.
Split PDF separates a PDF into several smaller PDFs. There are three methods. “Each page as a separate file” makes each page a one-page PDF. “N-page parts” divides the document into parts of equal length; if you say 2, for example, it goes 1–2, 3–4, 5–6, and the last part may be short. “The ranges I specify” takes only the pages you write and makes the consecutive ones a single part: “1-3, 7-8” gives two files.
Ranges are written starting from 1: you can write 5 for a single page, 3-5 for a range, or 9- for one page through to the end; you separate the parts with commas. All the parts come down inside a single ZIP file; the file names are made up of the source document's name and the page numbers. At most 300 parts are produced in one run. The pages are copied exactly, the quality does not change. If you want to gather the pages you chose into a single PDF, use the “Extract PDF Pages” tool instead of this one. You can upload up to 8 PDFs at once; with several documents, each one's output sits in the ZIP under its own name.
From start to finish
- Upload your PDF. Drag the file in or select it. The page count is read.
- Choose the split method. Every page separate, parts of N pages, or ranges. If you chose ranges, write the pages: for example 1-3, 7-8.
- Download the ZIP. All the parts come down in a single ZIP. The copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Why do I get two files when I write “1-3, 7-8”?
Consecutive pages count as one part: 1, 2 and 3 become one file, and 7 and 8 the second. If you want every page to be a separate file, choose the “Each page as a separate file” method.
Can I make the pages I chose into a single PDF?
Yes, with the “Extract PDF Pages” tool. Split PDF is designed to produce several files.
Why a ZIP?
A browser can download one file per request. Instead of downloading dozens of PDFs one by one, they all come in a single archive; you just open the ZIP on your computer or your phone.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
