MAKE THE DOCUMENT A SHAREABLE PDF.
Word → PDF turns a Word document into a PDF that looks the same on every device. With the default “Keep layout”, the open-source LibreOffice converts the document page by page: fonts, headings, colours, images, tables, headers and footers go into the PDF exactly as they are. Besides DOCX, old Word (.doc), RTF and OpenDocument (.odt) files open too. If the document uses a font the server doesn't have, an openly licensed font with the same metrics is used in its place, so line and page breaks don't change.
“Text only” re-sets the document: text, headings, lists and tables are written in the monospaced Courier typeface; images and colours are not carried over. On this path you choose the page size (A4, Letter, A5), orientation and a text size of 6–20 points. “Keep layout” takes documents of up to 50 MB, “Text only” up to 120 MB. You can upload up to 8 documents at once; all are processed with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your Word document. DOCX, DOC, RTF or ODT; drag it in or choose it.
- Pick the conversion path. For most documents, “Keep layout”. If you only want the text, pick “Text only”; page size, orientation and point size then appear.
- Convert and download. Download the PDF once it is ready. The copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Why has my font changed?
With “Keep layout” your fonts are kept. A font the server doesn't have is replaced by an openly licensed one with the same metrics; the look may differ very slightly, but line and page breaks stay the same. With “Text only” all the text is written in monospaced Courier.
Where are the pictures from my document?
With “Keep layout” images, colours, headers and footers go into the PDF exactly as they are. “Text only” doesn't carry images over; if you want the pictures, don't pick that path.
How do I convert my .doc file?
Just upload it: old .doc, .rtf and .odt files are converted with “Keep layout”. “Text only” reads DOCX only.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
