SUBTITLES IN THE PICTURE, ON EVERY PLAYER.
Add Subtitles to Video writes your subtitle file permanently into the video picture (burns it in). You upload the video and an SRT, VTT or ASS file; each line appears on screen at the time given in the file. Burned-in subtitles do not depend on the player: they show on social media, in a presentation or on a device that cannot open subtitle files, but they cannot be turned off later. So keep your source video.
For SRT and VTT you choose the font size (small, medium, large), position (bottom or top centre), colour (white or yellow) and look (text with a black outline or a semi-transparent box). An ASS file keeps its own font, colour and position exactly as they are. If the file is not UTF-8 it is read with the Windows Turkish encoding, which also covers accented letters such as é, ü and ñ. Because the picture is re-encoded, you pick the output format; the default, WebM (VP9), is royalty-free and opens in browsers. Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Hindi subtitles are written in a font for that language, and Hindi conjunct letters are shaped correctly. If you have no subtitles yet, you can first create an SRT from speech with “Subtitle Generator”.
From start to finish
- Upload the video and the subtitles. Drop the video first, then the SRT, VTT or ASS file. Once both are uploaded, the settings open.
- Choose the look. Set the font size, position, colour and the outline or box look; choose the output format and quality.
- Start and download. When processing ends, check the subtitled video in the preview and download it. When you leave the tool, the files are deleted from the server.
Frequently asked questions
Can the subtitles be turned off later?
No. The subtitles become part of the picture; they are not a separate subtitle track that a player can switch on and off, which is why they show everywhere. To change them, apply new subtitles to the source video again.
Will special characters come out garbled?
Not Turkish or Western European letters: a file that is not UTF-8 is read with the Windows encoding 1254, which covers ş, ğ, ı and İ as well as é, ü and ñ. For other scripts, save the subtitles as UTF-8.
What if the subtitles are out of sync with the video?
Lines are shown at the times in the file; the tool does not shift the timing. If they drift, fix the times in a subtitle editor and upload the file again.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
