A FORMAT THAT OPENS ON EVERY DEVICE.
Video Converter turns your video from one format into another. You can upload MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM, M4V, MPG, WMV, FLV and TS files up to 10 GB. There are seven output choices: light WebM (VP9 + Opus) for the web, WebM (AV1) which gives the smallest file at the same quality, MP4 (H.264 + AAC) which opens everywhere, MOV for Mac editing programs, MKV which can carry several audio and subtitle tracks, AVI for old players, and MPG (MPEG-2) for DVD players. The default output is royalty-free WebM; pick MP4 if you want the widest device support.
Quality has three levels: High quality gives a large file, Balanced is the right spot for most jobs, and Small file produces a light output for sharing. You can change the resolution and frame rate here too; both are applied in the same pass as the format conversion, so the video is encoded only once. Leave both on “Don't change” and the source size and frame rate stay exactly as they are. To drop the sound altogether, tick the “Remove audio” box. You can upload up to 8 videos at a time; they are all converted with the same settings and download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your video. Drag the file in or select it. The source codec, resolution, duration and audio stream are read; an incompatible or damaged file is reported right away.
- Choose the output format and size. Pick one of the seven formats and a quality level. If you like, set the resolution and frame rate here as well; both are applied in the same pass. If you are not sure, Balanced and MP4 open on every device without trouble.
- Convert and download. Watch the progress. When the output is ready it appears with its size and duration; download it or upload another video.
Frequently asked questions
Which format should I choose?
If it will be played on a phone, on a television or in WhatsApp, choose MP4; every device opens it. If it is going on a website, or the file size matters, WebM (VP9) is lighter. AV1 gives the smallest file but encodes slowly and older devices may not play it. MOV is for Final Cut and iMovie, MKV is for archiving, and AVI is only for old players — an AVI file comes out larger than H.264. Choose MPG if it will be played on a DVD player or in old software; the frame rate is set to a standard value.
Does the quality drop?
Re-encoding is lossy, but at the High and Balanced levels the difference is not visible to the eye. At the Small file level fine detail can soften. If the source is already low quality, converting will not improve it. Pushing the resolution above the source adds no detail either; with frame rate the source is never exceeded at all, and no new frames are created.
Does it convert the audio too?
Yes. Sound is encoded as Opus in WebM output, as AAC in MP4, MOV and MKV output, and as MP3 in AVI output; the channel layout, sample rate and length are preserved. If you do not want sound at all, tick the “Remove audio” box. If you only want the sound, the “Extract Audio from Video” or “Video → MP3” tool is faster.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
