FROM LOSSLESS ARCHIVE TO YOUR POCKET.
FLAC → MP3 converts lossless FLAC files to MP3. FLAC is an open format that compresses music without losing any information; it is the choice for CD archives and high-resolution music. But FLAC files are large, and some car stereos, older phones, game consoles, smartwatches and simple music players won’t open them. Converting to MP3 makes your music playable and portable on every device.
You choose a bitrate between 64 and 320 kbps. When converting music from a lossless source, 320 kbps is the MP3 setting that best preserves the source quality; 192 kbps is a smaller option that most headphones can’t tell apart. FLAC is lossless, and some information is permanently lost when converting to MP3, so don’t delete your FLAC archive; create MP3 copies for carrying around. You can upload up to 8 files at once; they are all converted with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your FLAC file. Drag and drop or choose the file. Its duration, sample rate and channel information are read.
- Choose the bitrate. 320 or 256 kbps for music, 192 kbps to save space.
- Convert and download. Download the MP3 when it is ready. The copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Which bitrate for FLAC to MP3?
320 kbps to preserve the character of the music. If space on your phone matters, 192 kbps; most listeners can’t hear the difference.
What happens to high-resolution (24-bit) FLAC?
MP3 doesn’t carry bit depth; the audio is encoded with lossy compression. The result is a normal MP3, and the advantage of high resolution is not preserved.
Can I convert an entire album?
Yes, in batches of eight. You can upload up to 8 files at once; they are all converted at the same bitrate and download as a single ZIP. If you upload one file, the MP3 downloads directly.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
