PLAY APPLE AUDIO ON EVERY DEVICE.
M4A → MP3 converts M4A (AAC) audio files to MP3. M4A is the default audio format in the Apple world: the Voice Memos app on iPhone saves recordings as M4A, and songs bought on iTunes and many podcasts use it too. The trouble is that some car stereos, old MP3 players, smart speakers, web forms and editing programs won’t open M4A. MP3 plays almost everywhere.
You choose a bitrate between 64 and 320 kbps; 192 kbps is the recommended balance, and 64 or 96 kbps is enough for voice memos. Because both M4A and MP3 are lossy formats, the conversion adds a small loss of quality; at 192 kbps and above it can’t be heard. Copy-protected Apple Music files (.m4p) can’t be converted. MP3 is patent-free, while the AAC codec behind M4A is covered by a patent pool. For the reverse direction, use “MP3 → M4A”. You can upload up to 8 files at once; they are all converted with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your M4A file. Drag and drop or choose the file. Voice memos shared from an iPhone work directly.
- Choose the bitrate. 192 kbps or higher for music, 64–96 kbps for speech.
- Convert and download. Download the MP3 when it is ready. The copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Can I turn an iPhone voice memo into MP3?
Yes. Share the recording from Voice Memos and save it to Files or transfer it to your computer, then upload it here. 64 kbps is enough for speech and keeps the file small.
Why did the file get bigger or smaller?
Only the bitrate you choose determines the size. If the source M4A is 256 kbps, a 128 kbps MP3 will be half the size; choosing 320 kbps makes it bigger without improving quality.
Are song details (artist, album) kept?
Don’t count on every tag being carried over. You can check the result with “Audio Metadata”.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
