TRANSPARENT AND LIGHT: FROM PNG TO WEBP.
PNG → WebP turns a PNG image into the much smaller WebP format while keeping the transparency. PNGs such as logos, icons, product images with the background removed and screenshots take up unnecessary space on web pages; WebP gives the same picture and the same transparency in a file many times smaller. The quality has five levels; for sharp-edged logos High (88%) or Very high (95%), and for PNGs with photographic content Balanced (80%) is enough.
WebP is royalty-free and is opened by every current browser; keep your PNG copy for older programs. EXIF information is deleted by default. The conversion does not scale the image; if you want to shrink the size too, give a maximum width in the “Image Compressor” tool. One of the biggest wins for website speed is turning PNG logos and background images into WebP. You can upload up to 20 images at once; they are all processed with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your PNG file. Drag the file in or select it. The dimensions and the transparency details are read.
- Choose the quality. High or Very high for logos and text; Balanced for photos. Make your EXIF choice.
- Convert and download. The new size and the gain over the PNG appear on screen. Download it; the copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Is the transparency preserved?
Yes. WebP carries an alpha channel; the transparent and semi-transparent areas in the PNG are transferred just as they are. To be sure, you can check the result in the “Transparency Checker” tool.
Can I get lossless WebP?
This tool produces lossy WebP; the 95% level is visually very close to lossless and the file is still smaller than the PNG. If you need a pixel-for-pixel identical result, stay with PNG.
How much smaller does it get?
With PNGs containing photos, 5–10 times; with flat-colour logos and icons, 2–4 times. If the source PNG is already a small, compressed icon, the gain is less.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
