DROP THE PICTURE, KEEP THE SOUND.
Extract Audio from Video gives you a video’s audio track as a separate audio file; the picture is dropped completely. MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM, M4V, MPG, WMV, FLV, TS and 3GP videos are accepted. It’s used to separate the audio of a lecture or conference for listening, to make an audio file of an interview before transcribing it, or to edit the music or speech in a video you shot yourself.
You choose the output format: MP3 plays everywhere, Opus gives the best quality at the same size, Vorbis is a royalty-free alternative and M4A is common on Apple devices. For lossy formats the bitrate is between 64 and 320 kbps. If you want the audio without any drop in quality, choose FLAC or WAV: the audio is decoded and written losslessly, and the file is large. If you only need MP3 or only WAV, “Video → MP3” and “Video → WAV” do the same job with a single setting. You can upload up to 8 videos at once; they are all processed with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your video. Drag and drop or choose the file. Its duration and audio codec are read.
- Choose the audio format. MP3 at 192 kbps for listening; WAV for editing; FLAC for archiving.
- Extract and download. Download the audio file when it’s ready. The copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Does the audio quality drop?
If you choose FLAC or WAV, the audio in the video is taken as is, losslessly. MP3, Opus, Vorbis and M4A are lossy; at 192 kbps and above the difference can’t be heard.
What if the video has no audio?
An audio file can’t be produced from a silent video, and the job returns an error. You can check beforehand whether the video has an audio stream with “Video Metadata”.
Can I extract the audio of just part of a video?
Extract the audio first, then keep the range you want with “Audio Crop”. Or shorten the video with “Video Cutter” and then extract its audio.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
