EVERY RECORDING AT THE SAME LOUDNESS.
Audio Volume Normaliser brings a recording’s perceived loudness to a set target. The unit of measure is LUFS, based on the EBU R128 standard: it looks not at individual peaks but at the average loudness the human ear hears. There are three targets: -14 LUFS is the level commonly used by streaming platforms, -16 LUFS is the default for podcasts and speech, and -23 LUFS is the European standard for TV and radio broadcasting.
During normalisation the true peak is kept below -1.5 dBTP so the sound doesn’t distort, and the dynamic range is preserved. Processing is done in a single pass; the result usually lands within about 1 LUFS of the target. It’s used to bring episodes recorded on different days with different microphones to the same level, to even out the loudness of songs in a playlist, or to make a recording meet the standard before sending it for broadcast. If you upload a video, only its audio is taken. The output can be MP3, Opus, Vorbis, FLAC, WAV or M4A. You can upload up to 8 files at once; they are all processed with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your audio or video file. Drag and drop or choose the file. For video, only the audio track is processed.
- Choose the target and format. -16 LUFS for podcasts, -14 for streaming platforms, -23 for broadcast. Then choose the output format.
- Normalise and download. Listen to the result and download it. The copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
What is LUFS?
Loudness Units relative to Full Scale: a unit that measures how loud a sound is perceived by the ear. The closer the number is to zero, the louder it sounds; -14 LUFS is clearly louder than -23 LUFS.
How is it different from “Audio Volume Booster”?
The booster raises the sound by a fixed amount (e.g. +6 dB), so the result depends on the source. The normaliser measures and brings the recording to the target level, turning it down if needed. To even out several recordings, the normaliser is the right tool.
Can I normalise a video’s audio and put it back into the video?
This tool produces an audio file. You can put the result back into the video with “Add Audio to Video”.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
