THE RIGHT FORMAT IN THE RIGHT PLACE.
The Image Converter turns an image into another format. As the output you choose WebP, PNG, JPG, AVIF, TIFF, BMP or GIF; all of them are patent-free. WebP and AVIF keep transparency and give a small file, PNG is lossless and carries transparency, and JPG opens in every program but turns transparency into white. TIFF is lossless and meant for print and archiving; BMP is uncompressed and carries no transparency; GIF holds at most 256 colors, so photos show color banding, while logos and simple drawings come out well. As the source you can upload JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, BMP, TIFF and camera RAW files (DNG, CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW, ORF, RW2, RAF); HEIC and RAW are only read, they are not produced as output. RAW opens with the camera's white balance in the sRGB color space. If you like, “Maximum width” shrinks the image in the same pass to 2560, 1920, 1280 or 800 pixels; smaller images are not enlarged.
The quality has five levels (from 95% to 50%); the quality setting is not used for PNG, TIFF, BMP and GIF. EXIF information (location, device, date) is deleted from the output by default; if you want to keep the shooting details of the photo, switch the option on. There are also format-specific tools for a single conversion (such as JPG → PNG, HEIC → JPG); this tool gathers them all on one screen and gives you the output you want whatever the source is. You can upload up to 20 images at once; they are all processed with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your image. Drag the file in or select it. The format, the dimensions and the transparency details are read.
- Choose the output format. WebP, PNG, JPG, AVIF, TIFF, BMP or GIF; then the quality and the EXIF preference. Do not choose JPG or BMP for transparent images.
- Convert and download. The new file size appears on screen. Download it; the copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Which format should I choose?
WebP for a website; AVIF for the smallest file and newer browsers; PNG for logos, screenshots and transparent images; JPG for email, print, old programs and the widest compatibility.
Is a transparent background preserved?
With WebP, PNG, AVIF and TIFF, yes; with GIF only fully transparent areas are kept. JPG and BMP do not carry transparency; transparent areas turn white. If you want transparency, choose a format other than JPG and BMP, or use the “Remove Background” tool to take the background out.
Why is deleting the EXIF data the default?
Phone photos carry the coordinates of where they were taken and details of the device; on an image put on the internet those are unnecessary and personal. They are cleared by default. If you want to keep them for a photography archive or as proof of authorship, switch the option on.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
