BRING A PNG DOWN TO A LIGHT JPG.
PNG → JPG turns a PNG image into the lighter JPG format. Screenshots and PNGs with photographic content are unnecessarily large; JPG gives the same picture in a file many times smaller with a loss the eye does not notice, and it is accepted by every device, program and form uploader. The quality has five levels between Very high (95%) and Smallest (50%); Balanced (80%) is the right point for most sharing.
JPG does not carry transparency: the transparent areas in the PNG turn white. If you want to keep the transparency, “PNG → WebP” gives a smaller file and carries it. EXIF information is deleted by default. With logos, line graphics and images containing sharp-edged text, JPG can leave a faint trace around the edges; for images like that PNG or WebP is a better fit. You can upload up to 20 images at once; they are all processed with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your PNG file. Drag the file in or select it. The dimensions and the transparency details are read.
- Choose the quality. Balanced (80%) for photos, High (88%) or Very high (95%) for print and archiving. Do not forget that transparent areas will turn white.
- Convert and download. The new size appears on screen; the gain over the PNG is clear. Download it; the copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a way to keep the transparent background?
Not in JPG. If you need transparency, use the “PNG → WebP” tool: WebP carries transparency and gives a file as small as JPG. If you want the background to be a color other than white, edit the image first and convert afterwards.
Which quality is enough?
80% for social networks and the web; even 65% is enough for an email attachment or a form upload. 95% is almost lossless but the file gets bigger. With images containing text and sharp edges, choose at least 88%.
Is JPG suitable for a screenshot?
For screenshots containing photos, yes. With text-heavy interface captures JPG leaves a trace around the letters; for those PNG or WebP is cleaner.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
