MAKE THE TEXT IN A PDF EDITABLE.
PDF → Word moves the text in a PDF into an editable Word (DOCX) document. The tool separates the writing on each page into lines and paragraphs according to its position; it marks the short lines set noticeably larger than the normal writing on the page as headings. The result is a document that opens in current office programs, Word included, and whose text you can edit directly. It is used to update the text of a report, to quote from a contract or to reuse the content of a PDF.
Let us be clear: this tool moves the text. The page layout, columns, images, table lines and the look of the fonts are not moved, and the heading guess is not perfect in every document. Scanned PDFs have no text, only an image of the page; because the tool does no OCR, it gives a warning in that case. You can see in advance whether a document has a text layer with “PDF Metadata”. If you want, you can move only particular pages (such as 3-5, 9-) and put separators such as “— Page 4 —” between the pages. PDFs up to 200 MB can be uploaded. You can upload up to 8 PDFs at once; they are all processed with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your PDF. Drag the file in or select it. The page count is read. Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened.
- Choose the pages and the separator. If you leave it empty, all the pages are moved. If you do not want a separator between the pages, switch the option off.
- Convert and download. Download the Word (DOCX) file and open it in an office program. The copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
My document does not look like the PDF. Why?
The tool carries the text, not the look. Column layouts come down to a single column; images and colors are not moved. The aim is to make the text editable.
I got a “there is no readable text in the document” warning.
The PDF is made up of scanned images. Those documents have no selectable writing and the tool does no text recognition (OCR). First turn it into a searchable PDF with “PDF OCR (Text Recognition)”, then upload it here.
What happens to tables?
The writing in the table cells is moved as text, but the table structure is not preserved. To take tables cell by cell, try the “PDF → Excel” tool.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
