THE RIGHT FRAME FOR EVERY PLATFORM.
The Aspect Ratio Converter brings your video's framing to a target ratio: landscape 16:9, vertical 9:16, square 1:1, vertical post 4:5, classic 4:3 or cinematic 21:9. There are three methods. Crop drops the edges and fills the frame; Blurred fill puts the video in the middle as it is and fills the gaps with a blurred copy of it; Black fill leaves the gaps black. That way you can move a video shot in landscape into a vertical format without cutting anything.
The output is encoded as MP4 (H.264), WebM (VP9) or AV1 at three quality levels. MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM and M4V files can be uploaded up to 10 GB. TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts want 9:16; an Instagram feed post 4:5 or 1:1; YouTube and the web 16:9. When preparing the same video for several platforms, running the tool once per ratio is all it takes. You can upload up to 8 videos at once; they are all processed with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your video. Drag the file in or select it. The current ratio and resolution are read.
- Choose the ratio and the method. Set the target ratio, then decide between Crop, Blurred fill and Black fill; adjust the output format and the quality.
- Convert and download. Watch the progress. Download the finished video, or run it again with a different ratio for another platform.
Frequently asked questions
Crop or blurred fill?
If the subject is in the middle of the frame (a speaker, a product), Crop looks cleanest. If there are important things at the edges, or text written there, Blurred fill gives you a vertical frame without cutting anything; it is a familiar look on social networks. Black fill is more formal and suits presentations.
Where is the crop taken from?
From the middle of the frame: an equal amount is dropped from each of the two sides. If the subject is at the edge, first crop with your own percentages in “Video Crop”, then apply a fill here if you still need one.
What happens to the resolution?
With the Crop method, the resolution of the remaining area is preserved (cropping 1920×1080 to 9:16 gives 608×1080). With the fill methods, the source height is preserved and the frame is completed to the target ratio at that height. If you want a particular size, use “Video Resizer” afterwards.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
