A LIGHTER PHOTO FOR THE WEB.
JPG → WebP turns a JPG photo into WebP, a format designed for the web. At the same visual quality a WebP file is noticeably smaller than a JPG; the page opens faster, less mobile data is used and the speed measurements of search engines improve. The quality has five levels; Balanced (80%) is the web standard. WebP is royalty-free and is opened by every current browser.
EXIF information is deleted by default; if you want to keep the shooting details of the photo, switch the option on. The conversion does not bring back what the source JPG lost, it only encodes the same picture more efficiently; so start from the original, high-quality JPG wherever you can. If you want to shrink the image at the same time, the “Image Compressor” tool gives you a size limit as well. You can upload up to 20 images at once; they are all processed with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your JPG file. Drag the file in or select it. .jpg and .jpeg are accepted.
- Choose the quality. Balanced (80%) for the web; High (88%) for product photos and portfolios. Make your EXIF choice.
- Convert and download. The new size and the gain over the JPG appear on screen. Download it; the copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Which browsers open WebP?
Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari (14 and above), Opera and the Android/iOS browsers. Older programs (some office and email clients) may not open it; keep the JPG copy for those.
How much smaller does it get?
Usually 25–35% at the same quality, sometimes more. If the source JPG is already heavily compressed, the gain goes down. After converting, compare the old and the new size on screen.
Isn't AVIF better?
AVIF gives a smaller file but its encoding is slow and some programs do not open it yet. The most balanced choice today is WebP; if you want AVIF, produce it with the “Image Converter”.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
