FROM JPG TO LOSSLESS PNG.
JPG → PNG turns a JPG image into the lossless PNG format. PNG is a format that every editing program, presentation tool and web page opens; when you save over it, it does not break up a little more each time the way JPG does. That is why moving to PNG is the right first step for a logo, a screenshot or a photo you are going to edit. EXIF information is deleted by default and kept if you want.
Even though PNG is lossless, information already lost in the JPG does not come back: the conversion carries the image across as it is, does not improve quality, and the file usually grows. It does not add transparency; if you want a transparent background, use the “Remove Background” tool after converting. For enlarging or sharpening there are the “Image Upscaler” and “Image Quality Enhancer” tools. You can upload up to 20 images at once; they are all processed with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your JPG file. Drag the file in or select it. .jpg and .jpeg are accepted; the dimensions are read.
- Make your EXIF choice. Location and device details are cleared by default; switch the option on to keep them. There is no other setting, PNG is lossless.
- Convert and download. The PNG is ready within seconds. Download it; the copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Why did the file get bigger?
JPG is small thanks to lossy compression; PNG stores every pixel losslessly. With photos a PNG can be 3–10 times bigger; that is normal. If you want a small file, choose WebP instead of PNG (“JPG → WebP”).
Does the quality go up when I convert to PNG?
No. The detail lost in the JPG compression does not come back; PNG only prevents new loss from here on. To improve the picture, use the “Image Quality Enhancer” tool.
Will there be a transparent background?
The conversion does not add transparency; since JPG has none, the PNG comes out opaque too. To remove the background and get a transparent PNG, switch to the “Remove Background” tool.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
