TURN WHAT WAS SHOT SIDEWAYS UPRIGHT.
Rotate Video turns your video 90 degrees to the right, 90 degrees to the left or 180 degrees. The most common need is a video filmed with the phone held sideways that then opens tilted on a computer: some players do not read the orientation flag in the file, so the picture looks sideways. This tool really rotates the picture as it encodes it, so it opens upright in every player without depending on that flag. MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM and M4V files can be uploaded up to 10 GB.
The output is encoded as MP4 (H.264), WebM (VP9) or AV1 at three quality levels. With a 90-degree rotation, the width and height swap: a 1920×1080 landscape video becomes 1080×1920 vertical. The audio and duration do not change. If you want to flip the picture rather than rotate it, the “Mirror Video” tool is separate; you can use the two one after the other. You can upload up to 8 videos at once; they are all processed with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your video. Drag the file in or select it. The resolution and duration are read; see in the player which way you need to rotate.
- Choose the angle. 90° right, 180° or 90° left, then the output format and the quality. For a video that looks upside down, 180°.
- Rotate and download. Watch the progress. Download the finished video; the copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
It looks upright on the phone but tilted on the computer; why?
The phone records the picture as it is and writes an orientation flag into the file; the phone and some players apply that flag, others do not. Instead of trusting the flag, this tool really rotates the pixels, so the result looks the same everywhere.
Does quality drop when rotating?
The picture is re-encoded; at the High or Balanced level the difference is not visible to the eye. The pixel count does not change, only the orientation.
Is the frame cropped?
No. Rotation drops no pixels; the width and height swap. If you want to fit a vertical video into a landscape frame, apply a fill or a crop with the “Aspect Ratio Converter”.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
