TAKE THE TABLE CELL BY CELL.
PDF → Excel moves the tables in a PDF into a spreadsheet. The tool gathers the left edges of the pieces of writing on each page, counts the pieces that start close to each other as the same column and places each row into those columns. It does not look for table lines, because most PDF tables have none. It gives good results with documents that have tidy columns, such as a bank statement, a price list, an inventory, a mark sheet or the tables of a report.
The “Column tolerance” (2–40 points, 8 by default) sets how close two pieces have to be to count as the same column: if the columns run into each other, lower it; if a single column is split in two, raise it. Each PDF page can become its own worksheet, or all the pages can be gathered one under the other in a single worksheet. At most 60 pages are processed; you can choose particular pages by writing a page range. With free text and complex layouts the result comes out muddled. The tool does not work on scanned PDFs because there is no text in them; no OCR is done. You can upload up to 8 PDFs at once; they are all processed with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your PDF. Drag the file in or select it. Documents up to 200 MB are accepted.
- Choose the pages and the layout. Write a page range if you need one (e.g. 2-5). Each page as its own worksheet, or all of them on one.
- Convert, check, download. Open the Excel (XLSX) and check the columns; if they are muddled, change the tolerance and try again.
Frequently asked questions
The columns look shifted. What should I do?
Change the tolerance. If two separate columns are merging into one cell, lower the value (e.g. 4); if the same column is split into two cells, raise it (e.g. 14).
Why at most 60 pages?
To keep the processing time reasonable with large documents. Move a longer document piece by piece with page ranges: first 1-60, then 61-120.
Can I move a scanned table?
No. A scanned page has an image, not writing; this tool does no text recognition (OCR) and gives a “no readable text” warning.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
