DROP THE SOUND, KEEP THE PICTURE.
Remove Audio from Video takes the audio channel out of the file entirely. The picture is not re-encoded: the file is ready within seconds, resolution, bitrate and frame rate are preserved exactly, and the file shrinks by as much as the audio channel took up. This is the fastest way to clean up videos with unwanted talking in the background, copyrighted music or wind noise.
MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM and M4V files can be uploaded up to 10 GB. If you want to silence the audio channel rather than drop it (leaving a silent channel in the file), use “Mute Video”; if you want to drop the sound and put a new one in its place, use “Add Audio to Video”. If you want to keep the removed sound as a separate file, take it first with “Extract Audio from Video”. You can upload up to 8 videos at once; they are all processed with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your video. Drag the file in or select it. The audio stream and duration are read.
- Start. There are no settings in this tool: the picture is copied as it is and the audio channel is taken out of the file.
- Download. The file is ready within seconds. Download it; the copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Does a silent video open on every platform?
On most of them, yes. Some social network uploaders and editing templates expect an audio channel; if you run into trouble there, produce a version that is silent but still carries a channel with “Mute Video”.
Does the quality drop?
No. The video stream is copied without being touched; the only difference is that there is no audio channel. The file shrinks by as much space as the sound took up.
Can I remove the audio and then add music?
Yes, but you do not need two steps: if you choose “Replace the video's audio” in the “Add Audio to Video” tool, the old sound is dropped and the new one is laid on in a single operation.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
