KEEP THE TRANSPARENCY, OPEN IT ANYWHERE.
AVIF → PNG converts AVIF files to lossless PNG. AVIF is a fast-spreading new format on the web that produces very small files, but many editing programs, older viewers and presentation tools can't open it. PNG, on the other hand, opens almost everywhere. Unlike JPG, PNG supports transparency: logos, icons, stickers and images with removed backgrounds stay transparent.
Because PNG is lossless, there is no quality setting in this tool; nothing is discarded from the image during conversion. Still, if the AVIF was compressed lossily, detail already lost in the source does not come back in the PNG; PNG simply keeps what is there, completely. The file is usually several times larger than the AVIF. If you want a smaller file for sharing, use “AVIF → JPG”. EXIF information is removed by default. You can upload up to 20 images at once; they are all processed with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your AVIF file. Drag and drop or choose the file. Only the .avif extension is accepted.
- Set your EXIF preference. There is no quality setting. Turn on the EXIF option to keep shooting and device details; while it is off, that information is removed.
- Convert and download. Download the PNG when it is ready. The copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Should I choose PNG or JPG?
PNG if the image has transparent areas or you will edit it. If you just want to share a photo, JPG gives a smaller file but turns transparent areas white.
Does the quality improve?
No. PNG is lossless, so it adds no new loss, but it can't bring back detail that AVIF compression already removed. The image looks exactly like the source.
Can I make the file smaller again?
Yes. You can recompress the PNG as WebP with “Image Compressor” or reduce its dimensions with “Image Resizer”.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
