MP3 FROM ANYTHING.
MP3 Converter creates an MP3 from the audio or video file you upload. Besides audio files such as WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG and Opus, video files such as MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI and WebM are accepted too; with videos the picture is dropped and only the audio track is used. MP3 is the most widely compatible audio format: phones, cars, speakers, old MP3 players and every browser can play it.
The only setting is the bitrate. 320 kbps gives the highest quality, 256 and 192 kbps a very good balance for music, 128 kbps a smaller file, while 96 and 64 kbps are good enough for speech recordings, voice notes and podcast drafts. Bitrate directly determines file size: 192 kbps comes to about 1.4 MB per minute. MP3 patents expired in 2017; the output is patent-free. If you need another format, “Audio Converter” offers six options. You can upload up to 8 files at once; they are all converted with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your file. Drag and drop or choose an audio or video file. Its duration and codec are read.
- Choose the bitrate. 192 or 320 kbps for music, 64 or 96 kbps for speech.
- Convert and download. Download the MP3 when it is ready. The copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Which bitrate is enough?
For most ears and headphones the difference between 192 kbps and 320 kbps can’t be heard. For a speech recording even 64 kbps is perfectly clear, and the file is three times smaller.
Does raising the bitrate help if the source is already low?
No. Converting a 128 kbps recording to a 320 kbps MP3 doesn’t improve quality; it only enlarges the file. You can check the source bitrate with “Audio Metadata”.
Can I turn the music in a video into MP3?
Yes. Upload the video file directly; the picture is dropped and the audio is saved as MP3. Only convert content you own or have permission to use.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
