IS THE BACKGROUND REALLY GONE?
Transparency Checker shows whether an image has transparent areas and where they are. It first checks whether the image has an alpha channel at all; for formats without one, such as JPG, the answer is simply “no transparent area”. If there is an alpha channel, it reports what percentage of the pixels are transparent, and how many of those are fully transparent versus semi-transparent.
The location of transparency is given on a 3×3 grid: the image is split into nine equal parts and the share of transparent pixels in each part is shown. That way you can see at a glance whether a logo’s edges are truly transparent or whether a hole was accidentally left in the middle. To keep it fast, the calculation runs on a reduced copy of the image (400 pixels at most), so the percentages are approximate. The tool doesn't change the file. To remove a background, use “Remove Background”.
From start to finish
- Upload your image. Drag and drop or choose a PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF or other image file.
- Read the result. The alpha channel, the share of transparent pixels and the 3×3 grid appear on screen.
- Fix it if needed. If the transparency is not where you expect, process the image again. The copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
What does semi-transparent pixel mean?
Pixels between fully visible and fully invisible: softened edges, shadows, glass effects. In an image with a removed background, a small number of semi-transparent pixels along the edges is normal and makes the edges look natural.
What does “Alpha channel present but no transparent pixels” mean?
The file was saved in a format that can hold transparency, but none of its pixels is transparent. The image shows as a solid rectangle on any background.
Can a JPG be transparent?
No. JPG has no alpha channel; when a transparent image is converted to JPG, its transparent areas are filled with a solid color, usually white. For transparency, use PNG, WebP or AVIF.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
