NEW FORMAT, OLD-SCHOOL COMPATIBILITY.
AVIF → JPG converts AVIF files to JPG, which opens everywhere. AVIF is a newer image format based on AV1 video coding; at the same quality it produces much smaller files than JPG and is increasingly common on websites. The catch is that older photo viewers, some editing programs, email clients and many upload forms don't recognize AVIF. If an image you downloaded from a site won't open, it is most likely AVIF; JPG solves that problem.
Quality comes in five levels: Very high (95%), High (88%), Balanced (80%, recommended), Small file (65%) and Smallest (50%). Because AVIF compresses so efficiently, the JPG output is usually larger than the source; that is normal. JPG does not support transparency: transparent areas in the AVIF are filled with white. If you want to keep transparency, use “AVIF → PNG”. EXIF information is removed by default; you can keep it if you like. You can upload up to 20 images at once; they are all processed with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your AVIF file. Drag and drop or choose the file. Only the .avif extension is accepted.
- Choose the quality. High or Very high for photos; Balanced is enough for the web and sharing. Turn on the EXIF option if you want to keep shooting details.
- Convert and download. Download the JPG when it is ready. The copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Why convert AVIF to JPG?
For compatibility. Almost no device or program fails to open JPG, whereas older Windows versions, some phone galleries and many web forms can't open AVIF.
Why did the file get bigger?
AVIF stores the same image noticeably smaller than JPG; switching to JPG needs more bytes for the same picture. For a smaller file, pick the Small file (65%) level or convert to WebP with “Image Compressor”.
What happens to a transparent background?
JPG has no transparency; transparent areas are filled with a white background. If logos or stickers must stay transparent, use “AVIF → PNG”.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
