THE RIGHT SIZE, THE RIGHT FILE.
Resize Video brings the resolution of your video to the size you are aiming for. You choose the target height: 2160p (4K), 1440p (2K), 1080p (Full HD), 720p (HD), 480p or 360p; the width is worked out automatically from the aspect ratio, so the framing is not distorted. The output is encoded as MP4 (H.264), WebM (VP9) or AV1 at three quality levels. MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM and M4V files can be uploaded up to 10 GB.
Lowering the resolution reduces the file size more than any bitrate setting does: a video that goes from 4K to 1080p carries a quarter of the pixels. That makes this the first step for videos that will be watched on a phone, sent by email or embedded in a web page. If you choose a size larger than the source, the picture is not upscaled; enlarging bloats the file without adding sharpness. There are separate tools for improving quality. You can upload up to 8 videos at once; they are all processed with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your video. Drag the file in or select it. The source resolution, frame rate and duration are read.
- Choose the target height. Set the size and the output format; leaving the quality at Balanced is enough in most cases. The width is worked out automatically, keeping the ratio.
- Resize and download. Watch the progress. Download the finished video; the copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Which size for a vertical video?
The target height is always the real height, not the short side. If you choose 1080p for a 1080×1920 vertical video, the height drops to 1080 and the width becomes 608. To keep a vertical video at Full HD, choose 2160p (the height stays close to 1920) or keep the current size and use only the “Video Compressor”.
Does quality drop when the size goes down?
The pixel count falls, but the picture stays sharp on the screen it is watched on: a phone screen will not tell 720p from 1080p. Re-encoding at the High or Balanced level adds no further loss. The problem is usually watching a very low size on a large screen.
Can I set the width myself?
No; the width is worked out from the ratio so the framing is not distorted. If you want to change the framing, trim the edges with “Video Crop” or move to a ratio such as 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1 with the “Aspect Ratio Converter”, then set the size here.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
