TELL A LONG SHOOT IN SHORT.
Speed Up Video raises the playback speed and shortens the duration: 1.25× and 1.5× make talking-head videos quick to watch, 2× halves lecture and meeting recordings, and 3×–8× turn long shoots such as a walk, an assembly or a drawing into a timelapse effect. The audio speeds up by the same amount; because it becomes hard to follow at very high speeds, the “Drop the audio” option lets you take only the picture.
MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM and M4V files can be uploaded up to 10 GB; the output is encoded as MP4 (H.264), WebM (VP9) or AV1 at three quality levels. The resolution does not change. A 10-minute video sped up 2× becomes 5 minutes, and the file size falls by roughly half too. For slow motion there is “Slow Down Video”, and for changing the frame rate the “FPS Converter”; those are separate tools. You can upload up to 8 videos at once; they are all processed with the same settings, and several files download as a single ZIP.
From start to finish
- Upload your video. Drag the file in or select it. The duration and frame rate are read.
- Choose the speed. Pick a speed between 1.05× and 8× with the slider; at 3× and above, dropping the audio usually gives a better result. Set the output format and quality.
- Speed up and download. Watch the progress; the new duration appears on screen. Download it; the copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Does the audio go high-pitched when it speeds up?
No. The sound is sped up with its pitch preserved; between 1.25× and 2× speech stays natural and easy to follow. At 3× and above the words run into each other, so dropping the audio at those speeds gives a cleaner result.
Which speed for a timelapse?
Turning an hour of footage into a minute needs 60×; this tool goes up to 8×. You can run the tool one after the other: 8× then 8× makes 64× in total. With long shoots, first dropping the unnecessary parts with “Video Cutter” shortens the duration further.
Can I speed up just one section?
This tool speeds up the whole video by the same amount. For section-by-section speed, split the video into pieces with “Video Cutter”, speed up the piece you want and put it back together with “Video Merger”.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
