ONE FILE, MANY PARTS.
Split Video divides a single video into several files. There are two methods. “Split into equal parts” cuts the video into the number of equal-length parts you choose: ask for 4 parts from a 40-minute recording and you get four files of about 10 minutes each. “Split into fixed-length segments” lets you give the length instead — say 60 seconds and the recording is cut into 60-second segments, with the last one as short as whatever is left over. All the parts download as a single ZIP file.
The cutting method directly affects the result. “Copy” re-encodes nothing: it takes seconds and quality is preserved exactly, but the cuts have to land on keyframes in the video. If the keyframes are sparse, the cutting point can drift a few seconds from the second you wanted. If you choose a codec, the video is re-encoded and the cut is made exactly where you asked; that is slower and quality drops a little. The default is Copy.
From start to finish
- Upload your video. Drag or choose your file. The length is read; use it to decide how many parts or how many seconds per segment you want.
- Choose the split method. Enter the number of parts (2–20) for “Split into equal parts”, or the segment length (5–3600 s) for “Fixed length”. The field for the method you did not choose is ignored.
- Split and download. The parts download as a single ZIP. Open the ZIP; the files are inside, numbered in order.
Frequently asked questions
Are the cuts made at exactly the second I asked for?
With the Copy method, not always. Because nothing is re-encoded, a cut can only happen at a keyframe; if the keyframes are sparse the point drifts by a few seconds. If you need an exact cut, choose a codec as the cutting method — the video is re-encoded and the cut is made at the second you asked for.
I didn't get the number of parts I asked for, why?
On recordings with very sparse keyframes, the Copy method cannot find the number of cutting points required. The tool does not pass over this silently: it reports a clear error and suggests choosing a codec as the cutting method. With a codec chosen, the number of parts always comes out right.
Does the quality of the parts drop?
With the Copy method, no — the stream is copied as it is and the parts are identical to the source. If you choose a codec the video is re-encoded; at the High or Balanced level the difference is not visible to the eye.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
