PLAY YOUR BROWSER RECORDING ANYWHERE.
WebM → MP4 converts WebM videos to MP4. WebM is a royalty-free format designed for the web: screen recordings made by browsers and browser extensions, some screen recorders and videos saved from the web are in this format. Browsers play WebM without trouble, but some apps on the iPhone, presentation and editing programs, older TVs and some messaging apps do not open it. MP4 (H.264 + AAC) plays in almost all of these places.
The VP8, VP9 or AV1 picture of a WebM is re-encoded to H.264, and Opus or Vorbis audio to AAC. Browser recordings have a variable frame rate and often carry no duration in the file; this tool moves the frames with their own timing, and files without duration information are converted too. Quality has three levels: High quality, Balanced, Small file. If you like, you can pick a fixed bitrate, lower the resolution, reduce the frame rate or remove the audio. The H.264 and AAC in MP4 are covered by a patent pool, while WebM is royalty-free. You can upload up to 8 videos at once, each up to 10 GB.
From start to finish
- Upload your WebM file. Drag the file in or select it. The source codec, resolution and audio stream are read.
- Choose the quality. Balanced is enough for screen recordings and presentations; if small text needs to stay sharp, choose High quality.
- Convert and download. Download the finished MP4; the copy on the server is deleted when you leave the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Is a WebM with no visible duration converted?
Yes. WebM files recorded in a browser often carry no duration information; this tool reads the file from start to finish and moves every frame into the MP4 with its own timing. The resulting MP4 has the correct duration written in it.
Why is the MP4 bigger than the WebM?
VP9 and AV1 are more efficient codecs than H.264; the same picture usually takes more space in MP4. To make it smaller, choose the Small file level or a lower resolution.
Is the reverse direction possible?
Yes. To turn MP4 into WebM, use the “Video → WebM” tool; the output is royalty-free VP9 or AV1.
Does my file stay on the server?
No. Your file reaches the server only to be processed and is deleted when the job is done; the output is deleted too once you download it and leave the tool. You don't need an account, a name or an email address, and your files are never sent to a third-party service. It is free to use: we set no hourly or daily quota on the number of jobs, we don't make you watch an ad before processing, and we add no watermark to the output.
